Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy is a pluralistic Jewish day school serving grades 6-12. Located in Bryn Mawr, PA (metropolitan Philadelphia), Barrack is the premier Jewish day school in the Delaware Valley, attracting students from Philadelphia and its suburbs, Allentown, southern New Jersey, and Wilmington, Delaware. Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy seeks a visionary, student-centered, proven leader to become its Upper School Director beginning July 2022. The Director is the leader of the Upper School, responsible for overall academic, management and daily operations, while leading a talented faculty, partnering with a dedicated group of families, and supporting an outstanding student-body.

Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Upper School Director is a member of the School’s senior leadership team. In addition to the supervision and management of faculty and staff within the Upper School, the Director will collaborate and partner with other members of the senior leadership team as well as academic and non-academic departments within the school community.

The ideal candidate will be able to lead and inspire, vision and implement, listen and communicate effectively, guiding a school with a 75-year rich history into the future.

Responsibilities
Oversee the academic and overall program of the Upper School
Manage and supervise a leadership team, department chairs, and faculty
Recruit, hire, observe, evaluate, and support faculty
Foster an environment which is student-centered, joyful, and focused on the overall experience of teenagers
Partner with parents and represent the school in the larger community
Participate in school-wide programs, including but not limited to, school events, strategic planning, recruitment of students, and policy setting
Work collaboratively with other departments in the school community to fulfill the mission of our school
Dream, create, and build a program to best meet the needs of students in 2022 and beyond

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership experience in educational settings along with the following qualities and qualifications:
An advanced degree in Education, Educational Administration, Jewish Education, or a related field
Believe in the mission and purpose of a Jewish day school education
A minimum of 5 years administrative and/or supervisory experience
Classroom teaching experience or other relevant teaching experience
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask
Familiarity with 21st century educational technology
Knowledge about educational trends, including but not limited to differentiated instruction, project-based learning, multiple forms of assessment, and student-engagement
Outstanding ability to be an active listener in all situations
Ability to engage, at times, in challenging conversations with parents, students, and/or faculty
Ability to develop clear and aspirational goals for the Upper School and the ability to share those goals to motivate all constituents
Dedication to ensuring that all students receive an exceptional education designed to prepare them for future success
Desire to encourage feedback from students, faculty, parents and leadership
Commitment to being a team-player and working well with others
Has an innate love of working with teenagers

Salary and Benefits

The position comes with a competitive benefit package that includes health insurance, 403 (b) retirement plan with a high employer match, group long term disability plan, sick and personal time, and a 50% tuition remission for children who attend Barrack.

Salary range 125k-150k based on experience.
